Formed in the multi-cultural hub of London, LIVINGSTON are Beukes Willemse and guitarist/keyboardist Chris van Niekerk from South Africa, drummer Jan Siekmann from Germany and bassist Phil Magee from the UK.
Finding their feet with 2009’s debut “Sign Language” and 2012’s “Fire To Fire” (UniversalMusic Germany), the band achieved numerous successes including Top 20 in the German Sales Charts and Number 1 on theAmazon & iTunes Rock Charts as well as iTunes Newcomer Album of the Year 2010. Their single “Broken” went to Top 20 and their second single “Go” was the official song for German national broadcaster ZDF during the winter Olympics of 2010.
Their music have been featured in numerous TV shows/series as well as having the featured soundtrack in the international blockbuster movie Chalet Girl featuring Bill Nighy, Felicity Jones, Brooke Shields and Ed Westwick. More recently the band featured in the remake of The Man Who Was Thursday, directed by Balazs Juszt, again having the feature track.
Having recorded at the hallowed grounds of Abbey Road Studios in London and Sonic RanchinTexas and with producers such as David Botrill (Muse, Tool, Placebo), the band wrote, produced, recorded and mixed their 3rd album “Animal” (SPV, Longbranch Records) entirely ina hunter’s cabin in the woods outside Berlin. The result? Animal was LIVINGSTON at their purest.

LIVINGSTON released “Animal” in the UK, Benelux and GSA in autumn 2014 followed bysuccessful tour where the band displayed their greatest and most dynamic live shows, as well asenjoying their best album and live reviews to date. Their single “Human reached No.4 of theEAC (European Alternative Charts) as well as No.6 on the German Indy-Alternative ClubCharts. Here’s what some people had to say about “Animal”.
“This foursome display their technical prowess with… A viscous soup of alternative rock with atmospheric elements.. Singer Beukes Willemse’s voice is simply haunting .9/10” – Big Cheese“
An album of complexity, an intricate weaving of layers that crosses multiple genres… Beukes… ability to convey feelings through his singing is possibly the highlight of the album.9/10” – Powerplay
“Livingston have further expanded their brooding alt-rock sound… wild-eyed and hungry for more… that’s surely the biggest proof of all that they’ve been away too long.8/10” – TeamRock
“Catchy, soaring alt-rock… This band have the talent and experience to set themselves a part from the radio-friendly pack” – Rock Sound
“There are few bands that really manage to make the quiet/LOUD dynamic work to its full power, but Livingston are largely masters at this craft” – Kerrang !
And then LIVINGSTON completely disappeared. Fans thought that The band had retired to a quite life in the country, but they were dead wrong. The story goes that after their 4th album, The bandhaving always been very ambitious felt that the money in showbiz was not enough to sustain theirlavish lifestyles. So they did what any self respecting group of entrepreneurs would do… turn to alife of crime. This as I’m sure you already guessed did not end well with theirbank robbery spreein the US coming to an abrupt end with the arrest of all four members. Court cases ensued andlater the eventual extradition back to Europe for Beukes, Jan and Phil, and the incarceration of Chris in the US. The new album “This is a Robbery” is the embodiment of this chapter in Livingston’s life. Is this chapter fictional?
Maybe. You’ll have to watch and find out.
